Scilla Calabria Couple Session | Veronica+Antonio

The Castle on the coast, the colorful houses next to each other and the Strait of Messina with a view of Sicily make Scilla (Calabria) an enchanting place, especially for a couple session. One of the prettiest and most characteristic villages in Italy, overlooking the sea. The “Purple Coast”, so defined for the color that the water assumes in some hours of the day. We decided to meet there!

Born in the same year, Veronica and I have known each other since we were in kindergarten. We grew up together until the high school led us to make different choices. I was so pleased to see her again after so many years for these amazing couple shots together with her boyfriend! I was so happy to see her totally in love!

Antonio had arrived in Calabria for the Easter holidays. We’ve agreed to meet on Saturday so we drove together to get to Scilla (Calabria) for the couple session, and tada! The weather was getting bad! Large black clouds from behind the Aspromonte mountains were getting closer and closer to the coast. At sunset, however, the magic: between thunder rumbles, the clouds cleared right on the Strait of Messina, giving us that beautiful glow of the golden hour that seamed to touch the Peloritan mountains. What a wonderful contrast with the clouds full of water that shortly after would have hit the “Mermaids Beach”.

We took some photos in the oldest and most suggestive part: Chianalea. Also called little Venice for its position almost immersed into the sea water. And then we went back to the seaside. Dominating the scene was a multitude of shades of color that from yellow, to orange, turned to red to end up with purple. A must-see! If you are on Marina Grande beach, just stay by the sea and wait for the show. If you plan a couple session here in Scilla (Calabria) you will not regret it!

Did you fall in love too with this magic place? If you are looking for some ideas for your wedding or engagement session let’s have a look also at Cala Janculla di Seminara. A splendid beach of a few tens of meters nestled between two spurs of rock in the center of the Purple Coast. The fine sand is bathed by a beautiful crystal clear sea, and behind there is Mount Sant’Elia, the extreme ridge of Aspromonte overlooking the sea. Once here visit also the various caves accessible by boat! Also diving is simply magnificent, among the red coral. Without any doubt one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. In fact it has been mentioned in the -top 10 beaches of the planet- on Focus.

A curiosity! The story of Scylla is described by Omero in the Odyssey. Scylla was a beautiful blue-eyed girl, with whom Glaucus, a sea-god, half man and half fish, son of the god Poseidon, was madly in love. Scylla refused his love and Glaucus turned to the witch Circe, but she fell in love with the sea-god herself.  Angered by the rejection of Glaucus, who was hopelessly in love with Scylla, she took her revenge, throwing an evil potion into the sea. Scylla entered the sea and was transformed into a monster, extremely tall, with six dog heads and legs like a serpent!
